Vision Statement: A Mind Set to Succeed
Our Aim:
We aim to create a centre of excellence by building a culture, ethos and organisational structure that creates opportunities for students and staff to master key skills and recognises autonomy within a highly accountable system.
Our Purpose:
We strive to engender an infectious, lifelong, enthusiasm for learning, creating a community with ambition, a sense of self-worth, belief and personal growth who are successful in an ever-changing world.
We seek to engage students and staff by offering a range of quality opportunities and experiences that lead to the highest standards of achievement and mastery of key skills.
We expect our students and staff to:
  • develop qualities of independence, adaptability and creativity;

Grove School aims to develop learners:
who are confident, resilient, enquiring, creative and respectful;
who take pride in their achievements;
who are able to succeed in an ever-changing world. 
In the light of this rapidly changing world, with dangers apparent now that were unthinkable not long ago, it is the case that all schools need to be clear about what they mean by British values and how these are promoted.
All teachers must meet professional standards and one of these states that they must:

actively promote the fundamental British values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs;
prevent the promotion of partisan political views in the teaching of any subject in the school;
take such steps as are reasonably practicable to ensure that where political issues are brought to the attention of pupils they are offered a balanced presentation of opposing views.

These standards support the national Prevent Strategy put before Parliament in 2011 by the Home Secretary in response to the radicalisation of British citizens.
What is meant by British Values?
Being British means different things to different people and celebrating diversity is a fundamental British value.  At Grove we also promote British values that encompass:
  • knowing right from wrong;
  • treating others fairly;
  • taking responsibility for your actions and considering the consequences of these;
  • appreciating the rights of other citizens whatever their culture;
  • promoting opportunities for all;
  • understanding the difficulties faced by those who do not live in a tolerant society;
  • religious tolerance;
  • contributing to as well as benefitting from our community, culture and economy. 
How do we promote these values?
British values are promoted in many ways here at Grove.  Exploring the world beyond us is an important part of being a fully rounded citizen and we take many opportunities to broaden our students’ horizons such as visiting our field centre in the Lake District – the Birks; theatres; towns/cities/coastal/rural locations to undertake fieldwork; museums and galleries.  Trips abroad to countries such as France, Spain, Germany, Malta, and with Camps International to Ecuador and Borneo, promote interaction with international as well as local communities.  Teamwork and resilience are promoted through our Duke of Edinburgh programme. 
Our collapsed curriculum 'discovery days' are an innovative way to address our value systems and explore what it means to be British as part of a global community.  Once each half term students experience a range of activities, outside speakers and educational visits which aim to get them to consider not only the fundamentals of British values, but their own values, their place in society and how society works.
Here is a taster of some other ways in which we will help your child to explore our values:
  • The British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs are studied in RE and other lessons.
  • RE lessons also help students to develop an understanding of religious diversity and tolerance.
  • Our curriculum encourages students to study other communities and cultures.
  • Assemblies and tutor group sessions encourage students to appreciate differences and challenge prejudice and stereotyping.
  • Democracy is seen in action through student involvement in the governance and organisation of the school via the School Council and the appointment and election of Student Ambassadors.
  • Student voice is encouraged through interviews, questionnaires and the involvement in new appointments to the School.
  • We participate in International Month every February.
  • We take pride in our International Award.
  • We are active participants in the Market Drayton Learning Partnership.
  • Our Good Citizens’ policy encourages students to develop community links.
  • We take part in the National Citizenship Scheme and Youth Leaders’ Award.
  • We welcome visits from members of the local community e.g. through the work experience and mentoring programmes and the Gideons who attend school annually to present Year 7 students with bibles.
  • We value our work with community agencies to provide support on various issues, e.g. the Fire Service, the Police Service - Warwickshire & West Mercia Police recently spoke to our sixth form students about the dangers of radicalisation.
Finally, we prepare our students to value becoming responsible citizens in the School and wider community through sex and relationships’ education; drugs’ awareness; anti-bullying and cyber bullying campaigns – we have an anti-bullying ambassador; HIV awareness; the Poppy appeal, the Lepra appeal and charity events to support national focus days such as Children in Need, Comic Relief and Macmillan Coffee Morning.
