Inclusions

Miss Lee  |   Inclusions Manager and Safeguarding Officer
Miss Harris  |   Inclusions Manager and Safeguarding & e-Safety Officer
Mrs Williams   |  Senior Mentor – Aspirations, Access and Achievement

Our Inclusions Department ensures that students access the best possible educational experience even in the most challenging circumstances. Grove's Student Support Zone (SSZ), based on the ground floor near the Student Entrance, caters for students that may not be able to fully access their normal timetable in the short or long term. This may be for a number of reasons: medical issues, anxiety, bereavement, to increase attendance or to offer focused emotional support. We also welcome students in the Student Support Zone during break and lunchtime where it offers students a safe, quiet space with the offer of activities during lunchtime.
  School Counsellor

Heidi Wassall

I provide a confidential counselling service here at the Grove. Few of us are able to work well when we are stressed or unhappy. Counselling gives students time to talk about things that are concerning them.  What is spoken about will depend on the individual, but common themes are stress, anxiety, relationships, change, loss and distressing traumatic events.

If you feel you would benefit from counselling within school please talk to Pastoral or Inclusions staff who would be able assess your level of need and direct you through the referral route.

 Tutors

Teams for Year 7-13

The tutor teams work closely with Progress Leaders and the Pastoral Support Assistants to ensure that all students have the best support while studying at Grove School and College. Students spend 20 minutes with their tutors every morning and during this time will work on their organisation skills, explore literacy and numeracy activities, check-in on topical issues as part of our Restorative Practice approach and discuss matters that may be affecting student progress and well-being. Tutors are the first point of contact for both students and parents/careers; this can be done via telephone or email.

The mentoring scheme gives students an opportunity to meet with a volunteer who can offer additional support in a number of ways such as:

  • raising students' awareness of themselves and others;
  • helping students to address antisocial issues - giving an alternative view;
  • acting as an advocate, exploring with students how they may reach their goals;
  • encouraging students' interest as well as helping students with learning problems.
